Malaysians Chinese New Year dinner

Tonight, we went to YP’s place for a CNY dinner. It was in the middle of Helsinki. I went early to help YP to prepare the Yee Sang while she was busy keeping her hands on her sushi …yeah CNY with a touch of Chinese and Japanese. It was an absolutely fabulicious dinner I’ve had so far … YEE SANG in the heart of Helsinki! How cool is that ?! The value? PRICELESS!!!

L and S were late for dinner, thankfully, because YP was only halfway with the preparation of the sushi. Trust me, that was a tough one! She did a great job! Finally, at 8.30pm, L and S arrived. The reason for their tardiness? They went to Stockmann to get YP a housewarming gift :) Nooooo it wasn’t housewarming but since it’s their first time visiting after YP has moved in, they just thought it would be the right time for their gesture. They were awesome! They got YP a gorgeous gift!

We had a small toast prior to our appetizer. L, S and YP had gin tonic with lime, while I had orange juice. So malu … cuz I am allergic to alcohol! I won’t tell you how allergic I am *tsk tsk*. Bottom line, I would love to avoid as much as possible.

The dining table was beautifully set up by our host … we tossed YEE SANG *high high*, citing all the good wishes for each other. It was a very good YEE SANG which comprised of radish, carrot, apple, mango (yummm), cucumber, pomelo, celery and salmon (marinated with lime and Hennessy (first class man!) ) … served with cashew nut crunchies, sesame seeds, coriander and plum-hoisin sauce. WOW! I am still craving for it as I am typing this now …*meleleh dah*

The main course was superlicious! 3 different types of sushi (inari, norimaki and uramaki (with fish roes … yummm), all made by YP, and japanese noodles. I love the wasabi because it was super duper HOT! I thought the wasabi sold in Finland is “sap sap sui” stuff … wow I must say this is one hot stuff! Guess what? You can get it from L and S’s shop, Aseanic Trading. We also had gari, pickled ginger … yummmmm … reminds me of Malaysia! Home! We had cold soba noodles (buckwheat noodles) with tsuyu (a type of dipping sauce) and a dash of wasabi! It’s so good. I never liked it before. JAL serves alot of them on longhaul flights from LAX-KUL. So I rather starve than to feast on it! Tonight it’s the first time after so many years, I tasted it, and it was delicious! Oh! We also had MISO SOUP!!!

We had green tea and “tong sui” (longan with lotus seed soup) for dessert. After, we took lots of pix … hehe … it was really fun! I enjoyed it very much!

Tonight, I was actually slapped with a 40euros fine for parking on a pavement plus pedestrian crossing … it surely didn’t look like a pavement, thanks to all the snow, and it definitely didn’t look like a pedestrian zebra crossing because there was a fence in front of it and everyone else was parking as if their grandfather owns the road. It wasn’t fair because those other cars were parking right on top of the pavement and they weren’t summoned. WHY ME??!!!! Before I left today, I received a speeding ticket too :( (alright this was expected as I was caught last Monday for going at 60km/h on a 40km/h road. How smart was that?! Utterly STUPID! After second thought, I should have smiled and turned back and took a pix of the damn vehicle which snapped the pix … hmmmm … maybe next time … *touch wood* sorry … no next time!!! Ok … back to why I am telling you this … I just want to say, 40euros in exchange for a cool evening, it’s definitely worth every single penny of it.

Some pix taken tonight … :)

Aren’t we adorable? *hehe*

PS: YP insisted that I mention this … Daphne made the Yee Sang … well, actually I helped to cut and present the dish, as for the sauce and fish, the credit goes back to her :)
