LOL … there’s really all kinds of names for people. In the latest immigration swoop, the Malaysian Immigration Enforcement team has taken in 45 women, believed to be involved in prostitution, mostly from China.

Now, why are they called “KUACI”? Kuaci literally means … as we all know … sunflower seeds (those that we feast on most during Chinese New Year). I remember when I was young - something like 20-30 years ago, my parents used to buy “kuaci” whenever we go to the cinema - well, that’s what everyone did back then. After the show’s over, we can see “kuaci” skins/ shells (however you want to call it) strewn all over the floor of the cinema. I’m not sure if they still allow the purchase and munching of “kuaci” in the theaters nowadays. The cleaner must have hellava fun sweeping them up.

But in this instance, these “women” are named after “kuaci” because “their modus operandi was to eat melon seeds while waiting for customers”.
