Where is your D90?

December20

A lot has been asked about my D90 - and most of the Qs were:

  • Hey! Where’s your D90? How come you didnt post it up?
  • Show us the pix you took with your D90?
  • Is your D90 cool?
  • Have you explored your D90?
  • Why? You are letting your D90 rot in the attic izzit?

Well … my answer to them all … I’m waiting for Christmas. So I’m not gonna use it nor flaunt it YET! It’s my Xmas gift remember? Yeah, I know I did say I was gonna practise using it so I could shoot nice pix of our Christmas dinner. But I broke my promise. Of course, it’s already out of the box and safely kept in my Lowepro bag which my hubby also spent almost 100 bucks for it. Dang! That’s what he said! I tested it - everything seemed fine. Except I got the CHA error message when I used a Sandisk SD card - adapter style. IT WONT WORK WITH IT! And so hubby spent 30euros to get me a class 6 SDHC card. Yay! It worked! No more CHA error for now … I hope it wont recur.

Anyway, few more days … I’ll showcase my sweetie! I’ve got the most expensive present yeah … now I wonder what they have got in store for me as my surprise xmas gift … you bet … I’m counting down … four more days …

Dawn

December9

That’s what I saw from Copenhagen to Paris. Lovely! The sea of clouds was amazing!

The mentality of people - screwed

December2

Since I’ve been a housewife for over 6 years … I practically claim myself as DISSOCIATED from the everyday people I meet @ the office, in the street, @ the kopitiam or even a shop. But that doesnt mean my brain has rotted and since became dysfunctional eh. Well, that’s because I kept myself busy with what’s going on outside there thru reading news and visiting blogs or websites where there’re generally information about fashion and style, gadgets and ke-pohness.

I’ve also set up a forum to connect myself with other Malaysians who are living around the globe. Well, I managed to gather some Malaysians and we formed a small community. It’s great because that’s how we communicate and seek solace in each other being away from home, family and friends. There’s some sorta level of comfort though not much. But I’m contented. Really.

Now speaking of mentality - I guess that’s pretty much an individualistic character in a person. Maybe some would say it’s a cultural thing. I’ve been frequenting a lot of forums from community forums to photography. There’s always some bad apples in the forums. But there’re also some forums where you hardly could spot a bad apple - exaggerating? NO IT’S TRUE! What (sorry I treat these ppl as OBJECTS - lifeless) I consider a bad apple is the way they read and understand things. Most are plain troublemakers which do not have a life of its own. Nolifers and no-brainers - YAY! They are also those that expect you to accept their flaws but they have to laugh and jeer at yours. wtf.

I’ve personally seen that in my own forum and also other forums. One too many … countless. I find these bullies really immature. With a recent encounter @ shutterasia.com. Being an amatuer enthusiast in photography, I joined that forum with the anticipation to learn more about photography through expertise advice and sharing of tips. Apparently, I’m currently very keen on knowing the technique of shooting fireworks because with the New Year’s eve around the corner … I would like to read up and also get some first hand tips from experts. So, I posted a pix of fireworks - which was really a great pix - and gawd knows where I found it cuz I’m just not bothered if nothing else on that site interest me.

Here’s the pix by shaolintiger.com

If you’re one who’s into this kinda photography - arent you curious to find out what are the techniques used? Obviously. I posted a thread on how to achieve a pix like this … WOW - I got WHAMMED by some bullies who said it out loud as I GOT CAUGHT RED-HANDED for stealing the pix from shaolintiger.com. HELLO!!! wtf! I got this darn pix from gawd knows which website and obviously that website wasnt shaolintiger’s nor was it any flickr sites (FYI it was a direct FLICKR link - the more I HAVE NO SHITE IDEA whose website or flickr account it belongs to). I seriously dont know where I got it … but it’s from someone’s website and I specifically wrote in the thread - pix taken from someone’s website. A few members interrogated and tried to humiliate me after which I said I’ve already reported the post - wtf reporting myself - and no Qs will be entertained. Then they stopped.

Some people are seriously sick to their mind. It’s so obvious I know no shite about the pix and shaolintiger was one of the owners of shutterasia.com … would I be so stupid as to post up hisĀ  work and credit that to myself??? With netizens being so good at DISCOVERING things on the net … would I fcuking post something that’s not mine and claim it as mine? Really C9Sin!

Ok enuf of my rantings … we can never change how people think nor what kinda things that come out of their filthy mouths - we can ONLY build a wall and segregrate ourselves from this people - *haha* ie to avoid these people at all cost.

And yeah I am not gonna direct link shaolintiger but I direct linked shutterasia.com - I have since found a better forum to go to. shutterasia is just an alternative if I couldnt find what I want in the other forum. Will not be my first priority.

Panasonic and Canon

November14

During this trip, I used Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07 and Canon EOS 350D. Honestly, I went unprepared on how to use the Panasonic Lumix because it’s my hubby’s. So quite many pix taken in dim conditions did not turn out well. It’s not the cameras that make bad pictures … it’s the skill *haha*

As you may know, I’ve only recently took up interest in photography. I still have a lot of issues with aperture and shutter speed. Composition wise, I have always tried my best. Of course, pictures are mine - so I definitely appreciate my own composition. My mistake during this trip was not investing in filters. Since most of the pix were taken in the afternoon and late afternoon, and besides it was quiet gloomy - so the sky really turned out greyish white. And that suck!

Well, thank goodness I have photoshop to help me enhance bad pictures.

Lazy Sunday

November13

… near the Notre Dame. This is a square just a few blocks from the famous Notre Dame Cathedral. I love the composition of the photo but the highlight isn’t so great. You’ll see bicycles locked, parked or ditched just anywhere in the rue(s). But I hardly see anyone cycling - I guess it’s the weather because in summer, there are lots of people going around the city with either their own bike or the city bike. Oh yeah, there were some locals and tourists using the city bike. It’s really convenient. Just have to know where is the location to get those city bikes.

CHR/CHA Error message on your Nikon

October31

It doesnt matter which Nikon series your dSLR is. Nikon tend to have this CHR error. Ever wonder what it is? I have been taking pix with my D90 yesterday and so in the evening, I transferred them to the PC. After that, I wanted to take more pix. The camera began showing the CHR error and it wouldnt snap. It just stalled.

My heart missed a beat. I thought something was wrong with the NEW camera. I tried to backtrack what I had done to cause this. Apparently, the last thing I did on was to remove and re-insert back the SD memory card. So, I ejected the card and slotted it back in. Tada! It worked.

So, today I googled for answer and the conclusion I got was - bad contact between the card and the camera. I was using the adaptor type of SD. It was quite “tight” and was difficult to get it out of the camera. So today, told hubby to get me a normal SD card - and he got me SDHC Class 6 memory card. So far so good. I havent seen the error.

So, if you see this error on your Nikon - dont panic. It seems like a very common issue for Nikon cameras and the memory cards. Alternatively, you can also check the firmware … perhaps your camera needs to update its firmware.

Hope this helps.

UPDATE: This is also mentioned in your Nikon Dxxx manual - the thick book. I only discovered few nites ago. wtf.

Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies

October27

I bought this book from Barnes & Noble @ Costa Mesa, California. Well, actually hubby got it. It’s quite a good book for starters. Worth investing! Only USD29.99 … dirt cheap! I doubt I can find it so cheap from Suomalainen Kirjakauppa. Anyway, I’ll be heading to Akademia to check out more books on photography.

Well, the reason I’m writing this is because I am not very happy with the condition of the book! I was upset because the friggin book has been flipped thru by some cheapos who go for free frills at B&N! There are prints and marks on certain pages in the book. wtf. I wrote to B&N and they said they would gladly refund me provided I ship back the book with receipt attached within 14 days! FARK! SO … conclusion is … I’ll have to get stuck with this book! Believe me, I cleaned the book page by page 3 friggin times with a cloth! It’s so gross to see someone’s finger print on a page … ok the page is kinda glossy … so finger prints are fuggin obvious! I actually tore that fuggin page away - yeah it’s just an intro page … so thank GOD!

Anger aside. I only got the book for a day … and I’m already so in love with the gist. This is a good Christmas present for someone who’s picking up photography. Oh yeah, don’t forget to check the book for gross stuff before you make a purchase … especially if it’s from Barnes and Noble.
